WORCESTER — When it comes to winning state championships, talent always plays a role.Chemistry doesn’t hurt either. The Mount Greylock’s volleyball squad has built upon that for the past few seasons, and it paid dividends Saturday.Tufts commit Celina Savage paced her team with 10 kills to go with a block and an assist, as top-seeded Mt. Greylock completed a perfect season with a 3-0 sweep of No. 2 Bourne to win its first-ever Div. 5 volleyball championship at Worcester State.“To be honest, in eighth grade, I took a look at my height,” Savage said. “I took a look at where I was and I was like: ‘I wonder how far I can go?’ A pipe dream was that we could be state champs, but we just kept getting better, and kept getting better. Now, we’re here.”Mount Greylock (24-0) was also led by Julia DeChaine, who registered seven kills and a trio of assists in the victory. The Mounties confidently took the court, looking to cap their already historic season with a bang. SCITUATE – You get one shot, one opportunity, and senior Joshua Kue captured it.No. 3 Norwell (20-2-2) captured their second Div. 3 state championship in three years in a 2-1 shootout (5-4) victory over No. 4 Pembroke (18-3-1) as Kue finished off the perfect set of penalty kicks for the Clippers; Kue had not scored since his sophomore year until the game-winning penalty kick.“There is always pressure but once I saw my goalie save (the fifth shot), there was almost like a high moment where I said, ‘I can win this’,” said Kue, a defender. “We work on that every day in practice, knowing that we work on it, there’s a lot of confidence in my shot and when I can finish.”Junior goaltender Nolan McKenna was simply outstanding throughout the entire contest and the entire playoff run. The Titans actually outshot Norwell in regulation and the two overtimes at a 10-2 clip but McKenna registered nine saves and stopped the all-important penalty kick.McKenna leaned left but dove to his right in pe...Uxbridge captures third straight Div. 4 field hockey crown

WORCESTER – Uxbridge head coach Kelly Rosborough’s sister was on the only Spartans field hockey team to ever make the Final Four up until 2021 – back in 1999.The tide has changed. With a 4-0 win over third-seeded Monomoy in the Div. 4 state final at WPI on Saturday, No. 1 Uxbridge (22-1) pulled off its third straight state title, joining Watertown and Walpole as the only programs in MIAA field hockey history to ever three-peat.Young star power once again was at the forefront, with sophomore Julianna Casucci and eighth-grader Ava Rosborough each finding the back of the cage twice against an otherwise strong Sharks (17-3-3) defensive effort. Monomoy answered with plenty of transitions into the offensive end, but the Uxbridge defense played tremendous to diffuse most threats.“Every championship has a special meaning,” Kelly Rosborough said. “We’ve just been fortunate to have this team and to have this crew. Each year they deliver, and it’s just as magical as the first time.”The Spartans...Bruins react to Milan Lucic trouble

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Sales on the secondary-ticket market were surging for Saturday night’s Las Vegas Grand Prix, but plenty of tickets were on sale on the Ticketmaster site for the Formula One race as of early in the afternoon.Race CEO Renee Wilm promised on the Nov. 3 earnings call by Formula One Group that “we will be sold out by the time of the event.” Barring an eleventh-hour surge, the race will fall short of that prediction. The first-year LVGP — beset by a number of on- and off-track issues that have tempered the enthusiasm of race fans, Las Vegas locals and even drivers — didn’t waste any time putting tickets on sale for next year. Beginning Saturday, fans can put down a deposit beginning at $250 for the race, which is Nov. 21-23, 2024.When tickets were originally put on sale for Saturday’s race about a year ago, the cheapest was $500. Nevada residents later were offered a limited number of tickets starting at $200.Even if there have been a number of missteps, ...Motorcyclist killed in hit-and-run crash in Leander; suspect arrested
