Apparently, Drew Barrymore can count on her celebrity friend Jennifer Aniston to still “like” her, as the bubbly talk show host faces an onslaught of negative publicity, angry protests, a prestigious awards show rejection and accusations of being a “scab” after she decided to resume production on her eponymous TV show Monday as the Hollywood writers strike enters its fourth month. An eagle-eyed X user noticed that Aniston was one of several celebrities who “liked” Barrymore’s incendiary Instagram post Sunday, in which the movie-star-turned-daytime TV host explained her controversial reasons for resuming filming for her show’s fourth season.“V(ery) interesting which celebs liked Drew Barrymore’s scabbing Insta post,” British voice actor Rebecca Norfolk said on X. Her screen grab of Barrymore’s likes showed that the host initially got a thumbs up from Aniston, as well as Jennifer Garner, Kristen Bell, Cara Delevingne and...Searchers scramble in Libya as death toll from flooding hits 5,100

By SAMY MAGDY and YOUSEF MURAD (Associated Press)DERNA, Libya (AP) — Search teams combed streets, wrecked buildings and even the sea Wednesday to look for bodies in a coastal Libyan city where the collapse of two dams unleashed a massive flash flood that killed at least 5,100 people. The Mediterranean city of Derna has struggled to get help after Sunday night’s deluge washed away most access roads. Aid workers who managed to reach the city described devastation in its center, with thousands still missing and tens of thousands left homeless.“Bodies are everywhere, inside houses, in the streets, at sea. Wherever you go, you find dead men, women, and children,” Emad al-Falah, an aid worker from Benghazi, said over the phone from Derna. “Entire families were lost.”Mediterranean storm Daniel caused deadly flooding Sunday in many towns of eastern Libya, but the worst-hit was Derna. Two dams in the mountains above the city collapsed, sending floodwaters r...Amid league-wide spike, why don’t SF Giants steal more bases?

SAN FRANCISCO — When Blake Sabol swiped second base in extra innings the other night, he set himself up to score the winning run just a few pitches later. He singled, stole second, advanced to third on a balk, and was mobbed by his teammates as he crossed home plate moments later.“I don’t think we win that game without Blake Sabol,” manager Gabe Kapler said a day later. It was an aggressive move from a dynamic athlete — especially so considering his primary position is catcher — two qualities the Giants have lacked this season.Sabol’s stolen base was the Giants’ first from a player other than Thairo Estrada since July 22 — 45 games and almost seven weeks ago.Estrada, who stole his 21st bag Monday, matching his career-high from 2022, has accounted for 42% of all the Giants’ activity on the base paths. The club ranks last overall, with 50 total, fewer than two individual players (Ronald Acuña Jr., 65, and Estuary Ruiz, 58) and 10 away from the next-c...Man runs to Safeway after being stabbed by girlfriend in American Canyon, arrest made

ALTU DE L’ANGLIRU, Spain (AP) — Sepp Kuss got to keep the leader’s red jersey in the Spanish Vuelta as his birthday gift.Celebrating his 29th birthday, the American held on to the overall lead despite finishing behind Jumbo-Visma teammates Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic after a difficult climb on Wednesday.“When I crossed the finish line, I thought I had lost the jersey. And I wasn’t even sad because I gave it the best I could on the climb,” Kuss said. “When I heard I still had the jersey, I was a bit surprised. Strange feelings today, but not in a bad way. It was a very happy birthday, spending it doing what I enjoy most.”Roglic picked up his second stage win after he and Vingegaard dropped Kuss near the end of the 124.5-kilometer (77.3-mile) route that finished through the fog atop the Altu de L’Angliru summit in a classic Vuelta ascent.Kuss was able to stay close enough to finish third, 19 seconds behind his teammates. HOUSTON (AP) — An Afghan soldier who fled the Taliban and traveled through nearly a dozen countries before being arrested at the Texas-Mexico border and detained for months has been granted asylum, allowing him to remain in the United States, his brother said Wednesday.Abdul Wasi Safi, 27, is one of tens of thousands of Afghan citizens who fled to the U.S. following the withdrawal of its forces from Afghanistan in August 2021.The soldier, called Wasi by family and friends, and his older brother, Sami Safi, worried that if Wasi Safi wasn’t granted asylum, he could be sent back to Afghanistan, where he would likely be killed by the Taliban because he had worked with the U.S. military. But Wasi Safi’s lawyer surprised the brothers Tuesday with news that his asylum request had been granted. The brothers, who live in Houston, had thought a decision wasn’t coming until a Nov. 19 court hearing. “I have tears of joy in my eyes,” Sami Safi said. “Now he can live here. Amazon Prime Video took a different approach during the offseason as it looked to improve its coverage of “Thursday Night Football.”While most networks review the film, go to college, or seek input from teams on different ways to broadcast games, Prime Video’s production, tech, and engineering teams visited Tel Aviv to meet with Prime Video’s Computer Vision Machine Learning team. The goal was to find ways to help fans understand and enjoy football better, said Betsy Riley, Prime Video’s senior coordinating producer of live events.“I can’t say that I’m able to diagram plays like Vince Lombardi but we spent some time on the whiteboards talking about football, diagramming plays, and helping that team understand how we see the game,” Riley said. “It was neat to be in a room mashing on ideas and having these varied perspectives to find solutions.”Riley told TNF analytics expert Sam Schwartzstein to think big when developing ideas. LONDON (AP) — Ben Stokes is in record-breaking form heading into the Cricket World Cup.In clubbing 182 off 124 balls, Stokes made the highest score by an England player in one-day internationals to set up the team’s 181-run win over New Zealand in the third match of the series at The Oval on Wednesday.Stokes beat the previous best mark by an England player — 180 by Jason Roy against Australia in Melbourne in 2018 — and posted the 24th highest individual score ever in the 50-over format. How he compiled his innings — a measured start of 13 in 19 balls before he opened his shoulders to hit nine sixes and 15 fours — underlined why England was so keen to get Stokes out of ODI retirement ahead of the team’s defense of the World Cup title in India starting next month.England, which had Jonny Bairstow out first ball, was 13-2 after 16 balls when Stokes and Dawid Malan (96 off 95 balls) came together and put on a 199-run stand for the third wicket.
